रडार किसके लिए उपयोग किया जाता है:
□ Detecting objects by using light waves.(प्रकाश तरंगों का उपयोग करके वस्तुओं का पता लगाने के लिए.)
□ Reflecting sound waves to detect objects.(ध्वनी तरंगों का उपयोग करके वस्तुओं का पता लगाने के लिए.)
□ Determining the presence and location of objects with radio wave
(रेडियो तरंग के साथ वस्तुओं की उपस्थिति और स्थान का निर्धारण करना)
□ Tracking rain-bearing clouds(बारिश होने वाले बादलों को ट्रैक करना)

RADAR stands for Radio Detecting and Ranging. As indicated by the name, it is based on the use of radio waves. It refers to the technique of using radio waves to detect the presence of objects.
रडार (Radar) वस्तुओं का पता लगाने वाली एक प्रणाली है जो सूक्ष्मतरंगों का उपयोग करती है। इसकी सहायता से गतिमान वस्तुओं जैसे वायुयान, जलयान, मोटरगाड़ियों आदि की दूरी (परास), ऊंचाई, दिशा, चाल आदि का दूर से ही पता चल जाता है।
इसके अलावा मौसम में तेजी से आ रहे परिवर्तनों (weather formations) का भी पता चल जाता है। '
रडार' (RADAR) शब्द मूलतः एक संक्षिप्त रूप है जिसका प्रयोग अमेरिका की नौसेना ने 1940 में 'रेडियो डिटेक्शन ऐण्ड रेंजिंग' (radio detection and ranging) के लिये प्रयोग किया था। बाद में यह संक्षिप्त रूप इतना प्रचलित हो गया कि अंग्रेजी शब्दावली में आ गया और अब इसके लिये बड़े अक्षरों (कैपिटल) का इस्तेमाल नहीं किया जाता।
