The Adventures of Toto
It is the story of the narrator's grandfather and
his pet baby monkey. One day his grandfather took a
little red monkey for five rupees from a Tonga rider
to add a new member in his little zoo.
यह कथाकार के दादा और उसके पालतू बच्चे
बंदर की कहानी है। एक दिन उसके दादाजी
ने अपने छोटे से चिड़ियाघर में एक नए सदस्य
को जोड़ने के लिए एक तांगे सवार से पांच रुपये
में एक छोटा लाल बंदर लिया।
Toto was a pretty monkey. His bright eyes
sparkled with mischief beneath deep-set
eyebrows, pearl white teeth and a tail
acting as third hand but his hand
to take his favorite dish was
dry due to keeping in the sun for years.
टोटो एक सुंदर बंदर था। उसकी चमकीली
आँखें गहरी-गहरी भौंहों के नीचे शरारतों
से चमक उठीं, मोती के सफेद दांत और
तीसरे हाथ के रूप में काम करने वाली
एक पूंछ लेकिन वर्षों तक धूप में रहने
के कारण उसका पसंदीदा पकवान लेने के
लिए उसका हाथ सूखा था।
Toto’s presence was kept secret
from grandmother by grandfather because
she got annoyed whenever he brought
any new bird or animal to home.
So Grandfather and narrator put
him away in a little closet opening
into the bedroom wall, where he was
tied securely — or so we thought —
to a peg fastened into the wall.
दादाजी ने टोटो की उपस्थिति को दादी
से गुप्त रखा था क्योंकि जब भी वह कोई
नया पक्षी या जानवर घर लाता था तो वह
नाराज हो जाती थी। इसलिए दादाजी और
कथाकार ने उसे एक छोटी कोठरी में बंद
कर दिया, जो बेडरूम की दीवार में खुलती थी,
जहाँ वह सुरक्षित रूप से बंधा हुआ था
Toto tried to escape from the room
for which he broke the peg and
tore down the wall paper and
narrator’s school blazer to make
rope due to this and by afraid of fear
of grandmother, grandfather took toto
to to a big cage in the servants’ quarters
where he lived with other pets-a tortoise,
a pair of rabbits, a tame squirrel and
pet goat. That night toto wouldn't allow
any of them to sleep.
टोटो ने उस कमरे से भागने की कोशिश की
जिसके लिए उसने खूंटी तोड़ी और दीवार के
कागज और नैरेटर के स्कूल ब्लेज़र को
रस्सी बनाने के लिए फाड़ दिया और दादी
के डर से, दादाजी नौकरों के क्वार्टर में एक
बड़े पिंजरे में ले गए जहां वह अन्य पालतू
जानवरों के साथ रहता था-एक कछुआ,
खरगोश का एक जोड़ा, एक पालतू गिलहरी
और पालतू बकरी। उस रात टोटो ने उनमें से
किसी को भी सोने नहीं दिया।
Then grandfather took toto and tortoise
to Dehradun to get his monthly pension.
Toto was kept in black knitted bag
and a tortoise in his pocket, while Ticket
collector thought toto was a dog and
asked to take a ticket for toto on the train.
Toto was unable to get out that strong bag.
फिर दादाजी अपनी मासिक पेंशन पाने
के लिए पूर्ण और कछुआ को देहरादून ले गए।
टोटो को काले रंग के बुना हुआ बैग में रखा
गया था और उसकी जेब में एक कछुआ था,
जबकि टिकट कलेक्टर ने टोटो को कुत्ता समझा
और ट्रेन में टोटो के लिए टिकट लेने के लिए कहा।
टोटो उस मजबूत बैग को बाहर नहीं निकाल पा रहा था।
When toto was expected by grandmother,
he got his place in a stable with nana
who is the pet donkey of house.
Toto and Nana become friends.
In winter the narrator's grandmother
gives a hot water tub to bathe and bathing
in hot water is favorite toto. He bathes in hot
water till the water doesn't get cold, after this
he dries himself in the kitchen's fire. In this whole
process someone laughed at him, Toto's got hurt
and won't take bath again.
जब दादी को टोटो की उम्मीद थी,
तो उन्हें नाना के साथ एक अस्तबल में जगह
मिल गई, जो घर का पालतू गधा है। टोटो
और नाना दोस्त बन जाते हैं। सर्दियों में
कथावाचक की दादी नहाने के लिए गर्म
पानी का टब देती हैं और गर्म पानी से नहाना
सभी को पसंद होता है। वह गर्म पानी से तब तक
नहाता है जब तक कि पानी ठंडा न हो जाए,
इसके बाद वह खुद को किचन की आग में सुखा लेता है।
इस पूरी प्रक्रिया में कोई उस पर हंसा, टोटो को चोट लग गई
और वह दोबारा नहाएगा नहीं।
One day toto about to burn himself,
grandmother kept water to boil in
kettle and toto thought, it water for
bathing and he opened the lid of
cattle to sit in water and set himself
in kettle till his neck, it was good till
water is hot now it has started boiling,
now when toto find cold sat down again.
He continued hopping up and down for
some time, until Grandmother arrived
and hauled him, half-boiled, out of the kettle.
एक दिन खुद को जलाने के बारे में, दादी ने केतली
में उबालने के लिए पानी रखा और सोचा,
यह नहाने के लिए पानी है और उसने
पानी में बैठने के लिए मवेशियों का ढक्कन
खोल दिया और खुद को केतली में अपनी गर्दन
तक सेट किया, पानी गर्म होने तक अच्छा था
अब उबलने लगा है, अब जब ठण्ड ढूँढ़ने फिर बैठ गया।
वह कुछ देर तक ऊपर-नीचे कूदता रहा,
जब तक कि दादी आ नहीं गईं और उसे केतली
से आधा उबाला हुआ बाहर नहीं निकाला।
Like this toto is full mischievous brain,
one day he took dish full of pullav to
eat and sat on tree and he always make
hole in narrator’s aunties dresses,
he damages dishes, tears curtains, clothes
and wall paper, so grandfather did want to
keep such pet plus he was not able to bear
loss anymore so he sold him back to Tonga puller in 3 rupees.
जैसे यह टोटो पूरा शरारती दिमाग है, एक दिन
उसने खानेके लिए पुलाव से भरा पकवान
लिया और पेड़ पर बैठ गया और वह
हमेशा कथाकार की मौसी के कपड़े
में छेद करता है, वह बर्तन, आंसू के पर्दे
, कपड़े और दीवार के कागज को नुकसान
पहुंचाता है, इसलिए दादाजी रखना चाहते थे
इस तरह के पालतू जानवर के अलावा वह
अब और नुकसान नहीं उठा पा रहा था
इसलिए उसने उसे वापस तांगा
खींचने वाले को 3 रुपये में बेच दिया।

Ans- grandfather takes toto to
Saharanpur to take his monthly
pension because last night he
didn't allow his fellow beings to
sleep. Toto travelled in a big
black canvas kit-bag with some
straw at the bottom. When the
bag was closed, there was no
escape.
Toto was popping out his neck out
of the bag and the ticket collector
came to know about toto and he
thought he is a dog, only dogs have
ticket price and he was able to sell tickets
, so he insisted on calling toto a dog.
4. How does Toto take a bath?
Where has he learnt to do this?
How does Toto almost boil himself alive?
Ans- toto only take bath in hot water
given by grandmother, he first checks
water from his hand and only then he
bathes from that water. he learned all this
from author.
One day, a large kitchen kettle
had been left on the fire to boil for
tea and Toto, finding himself with
nothing better to do, decided to remove
the lid. Finding the water just warm
enough for a bath, he got in, with his
head sticking out from the open kettle.
This was just fine for a while, until
the water began to boil. Toto then
raised himself a little; but, finding it
cold outside, sat down again. He
continued hopping up and down
for some time, until Grandmother
arrived and hauled him, half-boiled,
out of the kettle.
5.Why does the author say,
“Toto was not the sort of pet
we could keep for long”?
Ans- the author said it is not easy
to keep toto as pet due to his mischievous
behavior he damages dishes, tears
curtains, clothes and wall paper.one
day he took dish full of pullav to eat
and sat on tree after it, he broke dish
and he always make hole in narrator’s
aunties dresses. So it's expensive
to keep him.
