NCERT Class 9 English Beehive Chapter 11 If I Were You,

  If I Were You

This chapter is a conversational story between Gerrad, a dramatic person and

an intruder who is a criminal. Intruder got into the house when Gerrad was

packing a bag to leave the house. Intruder asked him to stop and told him

hands up by showing a gun but Gerrard didn't get afraid. Intruder was eager

to know about Gerrad.

Intruder wants to know who all people know about Gerrad, his nationality,

what his christain religion  name is and  whether he owns a car or not.

On this Gerrad told to intruder, a baker, green grocer and milkman knew him.

Gerrad also told him, he often remains out of town because of his work. Then intruder

told about himself to Gerrad that he is criminal and robbes jewellery plus he also

killed a policeman some days earlier and  he get tired of hiding from police,

so he would kill gerrard and he would live by his name in society.

Now after knowing the plans of the intruder, Gerrad quickly made up a story to save

himself that he also accused of a murder so after becoming him, intruder again will

get arrested. It's better both will run out of city. Finally he is able to conveniences

intruder and asked him to go to garage to ready the car and he pushed toward gates

of cupboard by making him fool that, it's a door of garage, then he closed intruder in the

cupboard and called police to hand him over. Gerrad’s alertness and attentiveness saved

his life.
