 The last leaf

This is the story of two friends Sue and johnsy who lived together in a flat on 3 floors in an old building. They both were painters. 

Johnsy was seriously ill and laid in bed for a long time. She doesn't eat and speak to anyone. Doctor visited johnsy every other day but she was not getting well. Doctor told Sue, johnsy can get better but there was something in her mind , she didn't want to live.

Sue got tensed and she tried her best to make Johnsy take an interest in things around her. She talked about clothes and fashions, but Johnsy did not respond. Johnsy continued to lie still on her bed.

Then suddenly Sue heard some whisper from johnsy, she was counting leaves falling from Evy tree as this is autumn season and it's raining heavily with cold wind and it's obvious to fall leaves of all trees. 

यह दो दोस्तों सू और जॉन्सी की कहानी है जो एक पुरानी इमारत में 3 मंजिल के एक फ्लैट में एक साथ रहते थे। वे दोनों चित्रकार थे।

जॉन्सी निमोनिया से गंभीर रूप से बीमार थे और लंबे समय तक बिस्तर पर पड़े रहे। वह न खाती है और न किसी से बात करती है। डॉक्टर हर दूसरे दिन जॉनी के पास जाते थे लेकिन वह ठीक नहीं हो रही थी। डॉक्टर ने सू को बताया, जॉनी ठीक हो सकती है लेकिन जॉनी के मन में कुछ था, वह जीना नहीं चाहती थी।

सू परेशान हो गई और उसने जॉन्सी को अपने आस-पास की चीजों में दिलचस्पी लेने की पूरी कोशिश की। उसने कपड़े और फैशन के बारे में बात की, लेकिन जॉन्सी ने कोई जवाब नहीं दिया। जॉन्सी अपने बिस्तर पर स्थिर लेटी रही।

फिर अचानक सू ने जॉन्सी से कुछ फुसफुसाहट सुनी, वह इस शरद ऋतु के रूप में ईवी पेड़ से गिरने वाले पत्तों की गिनती कर रही थी और ठंडी हवा के साथ भारी बारिश हो रही है और सभी पेड़ों के पत्ते गिरना स्पष्ट है।

Sue relaxed johnsy and said she will not die and sue wanted to paint something,  for light in the room, she can't close the curtains and begged johnsy to not look outside.

Now, Sue rushed down. Behrman lived on the ground floor and she told everything to him. Behrman came with her upstairs to see johnsy but behrman didn't say any word and went back.

Again johnsy was saying the same thing and looking outside to see the fall of last leave but it was still there but it was raining and stormy night. Then Sue hesitatingly removed the curtain and they both saw that the leaves were still there. Again one more Strom came but leave didn't fall and johnsy was looking constantly .

सू ने जॉन्सी को आराम दिया और कहा कि वह नहीं मरेगी और  कुछ पेंट करना चाहता था, वह पर्दे बंद नहीं कर सकती थी और जॉन्सी से बाहर न देखने की भीख माँगती थी।

अब, सू नीचे दौड़ा। बेहरमन भूतल पर रहता था और उसने उसे सब कुछ बताया। बेहरमन उसके ऊपर जॉन्सी को देखने के लिए आया था लेकिन बेहरमन ने कोई शब्द नहीं कहा और वापस चला गया।

जॉन्सी फिर वही बात कह रहा था और आखिरी छुट्टी के लिए बाहर देख रहा था लेकिन यह अभी भी था लेकिन बारिश और तूफानी रात थी। तब सू ने झिझकते हुए परदा हटा दिया और उन दोनों ने देखा कि पत्ते अभी भी वहीं हैं। फिर से एक और स्ट्रोम आया लेकिन छुट्टी नहीं गिरी और जॉनी लगातार देख रहा था।

After watching that leave didn't fall and realised, she was a bad girl and  had not cooperated with Sue. She has been depressed and gloomy. The last leaf has shown her how wicked she has been. She has realised that it is a sin to want to die.

  Sue was very happy after johnsy's mental recovery. Doctor came to see johnsy and told them, he has to see behrman because he was suffering from pneumonia and has only 2 days to live. 

Next day Sue told johnsy that behrman was dead due to him getting wet in the rain because he was painting a masterpiece of his life and that was the last green leaf of the tree which johnsy was watching and waiting to fall. That’s Behrman’s masterpiece. He painted it the night the last leaf fell.”

यह देखने के बाद कि छुट्टी नहीं हुई और महसूस किया कि वह एक बुरी लड़की थी और उसने सू के साथ सहयोग नहीं किया था। वह उदास और उदास हो गई है। आखिरी पत्ते ने उसे दिखाया है कि वह कितनी दुष्ट है। उसने महसूस किया है कि मरना पाप है।

  जॉनी के मानसिक रूप से ठीक होने के बाद सू बहुत खुश थी। डॉक्टर जॉन्सी को देखने आए और उनसे कहा, उन्हें बहर्मन देखना है क्योंकि वह निमोनिया से पीड़ित थे और उनके पास जीने के लिए केवल 2 दिन हैं।

अगले दिन सू ने जॉन्सी से कहा कि बेहरमन बारिश में भीगने के कारण मर गया था क्योंकि वह अपने जीवन की एक उत्कृष्ट कृति चित्रित कर रहा था और वह पेड़ का आखिरी हरा पत्ता था जिसे जॉनी देख रहा था और गिरने का इंतजार कर रहा था। यह बेहरमन की उत्कृष्ट कृति है। जिस रात आखिरी पत्ता गिरा, उसी रात उसने इसे चित्रित किया।

Q1- What is Johnsy’s illness? What can cure her, the medicine or the willingness to live?

Ans-1 Johnsy was suffering from pneumonia. Her willingness to live only can cure her.

Ans-2 Yes, Johnsy was suffering from depression which is very common among teenagers. 

3.Behrman has a dream. What is it? Will it come true?

Ans-3 Behram had one dream to paint a masterpiece of his life for which he would be remembered by everyone for long. Yes, he got a chance at his life’s masterpiece .

4.What is Behrman’s masterpiece? What makes Sue say so?

Ans-4 Behrman's masterpiece was an ivy leaf. He painted that leaf so beautifully it seems like a real leaf. Sue said it so because this painting saved the life of johnsy who was waiting to fall that last leaf to die but she got disguised by painting and found real ivy leaves which didn't fall and gave her hope to live and leave the idea of death.
